I kind of hope not.  Florida seems to be where coaching careers go to die since squirrel head, or even Spurrier left, and I'd kind of hate to see that trend continue with ol' Lane.  He seems to have grown to be a pretty good coach, maybe just good enough to keep Ole Mrs happy, and I like him just fine over there.  He's certainly a good personality in the SEC and I don't want to face him every year.  He could probably recruit to UF better than Mississippi.  I don't know what Gainesville has that Oxford doesn't. Maybe you could argue Gainesville is a little closer to the beach, but their both pretty much surrounded by shit. It's not like a college coach has a lot of time for a weekend beach trip anyway.  He's getting paid $9 million in Oxford.  Napier's only getting paid something like $7.4 million.  Would UF pay him more than Napier, absolutely.  Does he deserve $10 million?  Probably not.

I think the Gators would love to have him, but probably not $10 million worth.  I also don't think he would want the expectations of Bama on his back, but they'd probably pay him $10 million too.  He's the kind of personality that probably enjoys seeing the almighty Alabama struggle with identity these days.

I think Lane is smarter than taking the Bama job.  The Gumps are so entitled they think they have a birthright to an SEC championship and a trip to the playoff every season.  If those things don't happen, they bring out the pitchforks.

Lane knows this and he also knows that in the new world of professional college football where every player is a free agent every year, recruiting is a different animal than when Saban was ruling the roost at Bama.  Bama really doesn't have any more resources than Ole Miss now.  Lane can win 8 or 9 games at Ole Miss and he won't hear any grumbling.  At Bama, any season without a championship leads to an unhappy fan base.

I hear from folks on the ground in Oxford that he likes the lack of limelight there. Hotties galore and no one bothers him. He can go to the coffee shop without hassle and be a hero if he averages 9 wins a year in Oxford. Not a bad place to make $9mm, and with that kind of scratch, he can charter a plan to the beach and be there in 30 minutes…or get an alum to fly him down.
