Spurrier..........always Spurrier.............
#1
·       I was director of the Hospitality Program at Appalachian State for many years (part of the Management Department)
·       As a result, I’ve been a long-time, honorary member of the Linville Ridge Country Club
·       The highest golf course east of the Mississippi
·       Keeping in mind I was a state employee for 32 years…..a membership at this club is $175,000
·       Then you have to buy a multi-million dollar home….pay association and club fees yearly/taxes/etc.
·       The club is open five months a year…summer…..
·       Once again….the line that describes me:  “Did you ever get the feeling the world is a Tuxedo and you are a pair of brown shoes”
·       Like most similar clubs, everything is charged to your account and you simply pay at the end of the month
·       The owners of the club are from Florida and are big UF fans…….
·       Steve Spurrier, who is from Western Tennessee, is also an honorary member
·       As it turns out, our club numbers  are one number off…..
·       We were out there some years ago and ran up a big bill at lunch…
·       The young waiter, not knowing, SS, charged the whole thing to SS’s tab……
·       I realized this and thought about just leaving it on his bill after all the misery he has brought me
·       However, I did the right thing and brought it to his attention and we made it right
·       Shifting forward
·       I went into the pro shop today…..end of the season sale…..I needed a new cap…….
·       I gave them my membership card……but, once again, it charged it to Spurrier’s account
·       These folks knew Mr. S and knew there was an error…
·       Dang it
·       Just another day in the Blue Ridge paradise……………
·       The leaves are just beginning to turn
·       Do ya’ll remember 65?  He had a home in another club up here.  Elk River.  We dined with him when he was in the area…..Much of the golf course there washed away in the hurricane a year ago………….

Have an in-law of the wife's family that has a castle on the ridge at Linville Ridge. Played at the cc many years ago. Nice place.

Smokin,

What is that golf course maintenance compared to virtually level Georgia land ? Exponentially more ?

I have a client building a course in Dubai. All kinds of issues there.

Did you know a Larry Conger? My buddy’s grandfather big jazz guy back in the day. Married a DuPont. We used to make a trip up there in the winter and stay at his house while he was south. Good times.
