He and my dad were friends at Georgia. He was two years younger than my dad. My dad played baseball, so they were both around the athletic facilities together. They went to movies together in Athens and my dad drove him around some since he didn't have a car. Growing up, I had a friend down the street who was originally from Rome. He absolutely worshipped Tarkenton. He had a Vikings helmet and a #10 Vikings jersey he always wore when we played football in the yard.

I saw him at a book signing in Athens a few years ago and spoke to him. He was sort of a jerk. I had heard other people say he wasn't the nicest person, but I was surprised at how he acted towards me. He acted like he was not very happy to be there, maybe he wasn't.

I had heard he was an asshole too. Very surprised because I loved him. Maybe like Chevy Chase. You don't know the real person til you meet them. My personal experience with that was Myron Mixon. What a complete ass.

My experience in that area....Bill Elliott.

Had my 9 year old son with me, went through an autograph line and he wouldn't even look at my son.  Signed a card and threw it across the table like Doc Holliday dealin' stud.

Son bought himself an Earnhardt hat that day.  I couldn't have been prouder of his as a race fan in that moment.  His own money.

Fk that red headed hillbilly SOB.
