There is not a single local morning radio show with music in Augusta now. BITD, WBBQ had Buddy Carr and then Mark Summers and dominated the local market like no other radio show in any market of any size. WBBQ was written about in national radio publications because of its dominance in the market. At its peak, it maintained a close to 50% share of the local radio market in a market of over a half million people. The format was Top 40 but they played a great mix of R&B, Classic Rock, Southern Rock and Top 40.

In 1994, in what has to be one of the all time dumbest decisions in broadcast history, the new manager changed the format from Top 40 to adult contemporary and ratings tanked and never recovered.

So sad to hear. He was awesome. I remember him well and always enjoyed his show.
Dang, getting old, but I look forward to every day.

He was great during my college years '74 through '79. The best thing on morning radio.

No, lung cancer got him over 20 years ago. He did some PR work for Delta after radio, iirc.
