ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia sophomore Somto Cyril has been honored as a member of the SEC's All-Defensive team for the 2025-26 season. The league office in Birmingham, Ala., released the SEC's accolades, as voted on by league coaches, on Monday afternoon. Cyril, a 6-11, 260-pound center from Enugu, Nigeria, has emerged as one of the nation's top defensive players this season. He leads the SEC in blocks per game – both overall (2.34 bpg) and in SEC games (2.22 bpg). Cyril currently ranks No. 10 nationally in blocks per game at 2.34.
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia sophomore Kanon Catchings has been tabbed the SEC's co-Player of the Week after leading the Bulldogs to victories over No. 16 Alabama and at Mississippi State last week. Catchings, a 6-9, 220-pound, forward from Brownsburg, Ind., averaged 27.5 points while shooting 59.4 percent from the field, including 60.0 percent from 3-point range. He connected on a combined 19-of-32 of his field goal attempts and 12-of-20 shots from behind the 3-point arc against the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs.
ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 12 Georgia softball team is set to host West Georgia on Tuesday night at the Jack Turner Stadium at 6:00 p.m. on 'Taylor Swift Tuesday.' Georgia enters Tuesday at 19-7 (1-2), and the visiting Wolves sit at 8-17 on the season.
ATHENS, Ga.-----University of Georgia junior catcher Daniel Jackson has been named the Southeastern Conference Co-Player of the Week while junior Dylan Vigue is the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. Jackson batted .478 (11-for-23) with 14 runs scored, a double, a triple, five home runs and 13 RBI in helping the Bulldogs go 5-1 last week. Also, he posted a 1.261 slugging percentage, drew six walks plus went 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts. He started all six games, including five at catcher, and recorded a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 54 total chances. Vigue, a 6-3, 230-pound right-hander from Leominster, Mass., provided Georgia's most dominating start of the season this past Saturday. He tossed a seven-inning complete game one-hit shutout in an 11-0 run-rule victory over Queens. He carried a no-hitter through 5.2 innings before allowing a double and then promptly struck out the next batter. He finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts and only one walk, facing just 23 batters (two over the minimum).
