Mike Adams Gone............
#1
* My father taught for many years at UGA
* My mother worked for many years at UGA
* Both my brother and I are "Double Dawgs"
* Mike Adams
* I have never seen one human being do more harm to an institution than this guy
* He bitterly divided the UGA family because of his out-of-control ego.....
* Dooley Field......Adams and his real boss, Don Leebern,  thought it could/would never happen.....
* Glad they both lived long enough to see they were wrong....and what the Georgia family really thought of them both
* Two great days.....the naming of Dooley field and the retirement day of Adams.......
* He set the university back a decade.........
* "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord"
* Adams has some explaining to do when he meets his maker........if he even gets that far.........

My good friend’s dad was directly implicit in the hiring of MA. I sent him the obit today and said to let his Pop know that shitbird died.

Jan Kemp did her share of damage that could rival anyone, but I see what you're saying.

Adams was arrogant but raised the status of the University academically (Yes - I know the Hope Scholarship helped a lot) Obviously, Dooley loyalists didn't like him. But Vince the Prince had his flaws as well. Herschel certainly had a lot to do with his coaching success and legacy. Kirby has already passed him as the Georgia HC GOAT, IMO

I didn't care for Adams, he was arrogant and wanted to control everything, especially the foundation money.  He wanted to make Georgia more of an elite academic institution, along the lines of UVA or UNC, than the "good" state university it was when he came in.  HOPE made it much easier for him to do that, but he still had the vision of what he wanted it to be.  He ruffled a lot of old school alumni and administration feathers.  That upsetting of the apple cart, combined with his arrogance, didn't lend itself to him having many admirers.  Between HOPE and Adams actions, The University of Georgia became a much different, and much better, school than the school I graduated from.

Dooley was not the kindly beloved figure many of his loyalist think he was.  He was a shrewd politician in the university and he kept the "country club good old boy" culture alive and well as AD.  If not for Herschel, Dooley would have been a good coach but not really special.  Without Herschel, he was a 7 win coach who would throw in a season here and there with 9 wins and a major bowl.  His bowl record was 8-10-2, not exactly the stuff of legend.  He even managed to go 1-2 in bowls with Herschel.  I still contend he made sure the hire after he left was someone he knew would not be better than he had been.  That explains the inexplicable hire of Ray Goff (DGD imo) as HC.  Dooley claimed to have not been involved but I have some rock solid inside knowledge that he was very much involved in the background.

Richt was a better HC than Dooley and Kirby is definitely the GOAT at Georgia.
