Rob Reiner

I am curious about ya'll's thoughts on this.    Was this just bad parenting or just a bad kid ?   I have a theory that a father has to show up for a son to discipline and a daughter to show her worth.    I know I, and my son, experienced some "come to Jesus" moments between 10 and 16 that shaped our lives.     I also don't know how a 15 year old affords drugs.    He clearly didn't work.    My father gave me alot of autonomy, but worked me so hard I had little free time to get in trouble.

I have 4 kids. All parented from the same people.
Now the stresses of the firstborn are not the same as the 4th. I am always reluctant to place all the blame on the child or the parent. If I had it to do all over I would do some things different.
All that said, I think Rob Reiner had some mental problems as well as the kid. Jmho.

The one telling thing I saw was in the interview with his son, he seemed to be playing to the audience and never accepting any kind of responsibility, except by deflecting. He said his big mistake was listening to therapists rather than trust his own instinct.

He seems like the type that always has to cast himself as "the good one" sacrificing for his screwed up kid.

Similar to Meunchusen syndrome by proxy.

Probably somewhere in the middle.

Personally, I place most of the blame on Rob.  Seriously doubt he was there much for his son.....an afterthought.  Rob had a huge ego that would have been hard to deal with over a lifetime...............

Most of the people in Hollyweird are mentally ill, IMO. They are so self absorbed that they lose touch with reality.
Then you have one of the largest collection of pedophiles concentrated in positions of power where youngsters (and their parents) would literally do almost anything to make themselves in that fake glitter world.

Combination of bad parenting, and a bit of a mental problem. You can't raise kids out of mental imbalance, but you can sure try to teach them how to cope with it so that they don't turn to drugs like he did. It sounded like they had a very weird relationship. When they worked on a show or movie together, apparently they kissed each other on the lips, which is weird (to me) with a son that is older than 5 or 6, but especially one that is adult age, and they fought and bickered a lot.

The entertainment industry is made up of all the weirdo drama club, chorus, glee club socially retarded people from HS who have grown up and concentrated in one city and one industry.

Nothing that happens out there surprises me.

Some friends of mine have 2 kids.  The son is salt of the earth and lives a good and honest life.  The daughter, a complete POS.  It started early.  You could just tell something wasn't right with her when you looked in her eyes.  They literally spent their retirement funds on special schools, rehabs, and just about every form of counseling known to mankind.  None of it work.  As she got older it became more physical.  She would hit her Mom and then when her Dad stepped in, she would slap the glasses off his face.  By 15 she was smoking weed.  By 17 she was on meth.  After several juvenile arrests, she committed another crime (a felony this time) as an adult and spent a year in jail.  Shortly after her 20th birthday she got pregnant by a crack head.  He disappeared.  She gave birth to the crack addicted child in a prison hospital because she was back in jail after violating her probation.  The baby was given up for adoption but in truth, the kid didn't have a chance for a normal life because she is drug addled because of when her Mom did when she was pregnant.  She stole money, pawned things from her parents house, and finally sold herself for dope.  Every time they welcomed her back thinking it would be different the next time because she couldn't use drugs in prison.  She made "friends" in prison and invited them to stay at her parents house.  They didn't show up to live there but they sure broke in and robbed when the parents were away.

The last straw was the parents woke up in the middle of the night with the daughter entering their bedroom with a butcher knife.  She was coked out of her mind.  That was about 17+ years ago.  She got locked up again 3 years for selling dope.  During that confinement, they sold their home and left no forwarding address and literally disappeared.  Before they did, I got a phone call telling me goodbye that they just couldn't continue to live in fear of being murdered and hoped I understood.  2 years after she got out of prison she overdosed.  There was a question if was accidental or intentional.  About 2 weeks after she died the police tracked down her brother and he got in touch with his parents.  They were only surprised it hadn't happened sooner.

The point of this story is sometimes people are just screwed up.  No matter how good the parents are or how much they try to help.
