I don’t disagree, but there would still be bitching by teams 9 & 10. ALWAYS going to be someone to get their feelings hurt. It was us a couple of years ago…though justified. Undefeated going into the championship and lose by three, I think. Got moved to #6 (no joke).

and 2x time reigning national championship team that lost to the next most recent national championship team by 3.  A one loss team at that.   Also, Cranky Sanky told UGA to cancel a quality opponent in OK because they were coming in the league only to have the cummittee penalize us for not playing a quality non conf game.

Those two games won’t seem like a bye if the huge favorites suffer critical injuries in these mismatches.

Those byes weren’t a plus last year as all the teams with a bye lost, as their opponents were in better game form.

Either drop it to 8 teams or increase it to 16 with no byes, IMO.  I Personally favor the 16 with all the top 8 teams rewarded with an extra home game in the first round. I’d select the 13 best teams plus further reward the top 3 seeds with a first round game vs the 3 best group of 5 champions.  That would prevent a Group of 5 collusion lawsuit against the Power 4 and still give every team with a legitimate chance to win it all a place in the playoff.

One more thing, all first round losers are reserved a spot in a bowl game and any team refusing a bowl bid gets a four year banishment from the playoffs.

The dates for the portal, signing day & coaching hires would be moved to after the NC Game.

Finally, Notre Dame would be given an ultimatum.  Join a Power 4 conference or be ineligible for postseason play in ANY sport.

2 of the teams last year with a bye weren’t national champion caliber, another was breaking in a new QB..it’s football, injuries happen.

Look at the current top 8..they are the best 8.  Bama didn’t deserve their bid, in my opinion, they looked crap pretty much every game after their win in Athens, and they have by far the worst loss in the field..excluding Ole Miss drilling Tulane..I don’t see how adding more teams helps. 

8 would have worked perfect with the current group of 6 Bowls, Quarters then Semis rotating yearly..the neutral site final gets bid on as it is now..Tampa this year I think. 

The ratings will be dismal for the Tulane/Ole Miss game and Oregon/JMU.  Those games are going up against NFL games on a Saturday night, there is a reason they scheduled them then.  BAMA OU is on. Friday night to avoid the NFL, same with aTm and Miami..that’s a nooner on Saturday..the two biggest games, in time slots that they shouldn’t be in.

I still say my long time plan for 8 12 team conferences with the 8 conference champions playing a three round playoff is the best solution but it will never happen.  Let the other 40 teams go back to FCS.  Ga Southern, Coastal Carolina, Western KY, etc. are never going to contend for an FBS NC.
