This has been on my mind re: Gunner Stockton...

Not here necessarily, but on some of TOS, there has and continues to be those doubting his opportunities in the pros.   I think he compares very favorably to at least one NFL QB that has had a good bit of success in the NFL.

Here are their stats...Full disclosure, the "player ????" stats are his sophmore season...but they were a full season.   He transferred and went pro after his junior year.  I'm sure many can easily figure out who it was/is.   But I'd encourage you to look at the stats and see what you think first.

Player (??????)
Passing:
  • Games: 14
  • Completions/Attempts: 154 / 255
  • Completion %: ~60.4%
  • Passing Yards: 2,081
  • Yards per Attempt: ~8.2
  • Passing Touchdowns: 17
  • Interceptions: 1
  • Passer Rating: ~150.75 (or ~150.2 in some sources)
Rushing:
  • Attempts: 154 carries
  • Rushing Yards: 855
  • Average Yards per Carry: ~5.6
  • Rushing Touchdowns: 8

Gunner Stockton — 2025 Season (to date, Georgia)
Passing:
  • Completions/Attempts: 179 / 258 → ~69.4% completion rate.
  • Passing Yards: 2,040 yards.
  • Yards per Attempt: ~7.9 yards.
  • Passing Touchdowns: 15.
  • Interceptions: 2.
Rushing:
  • Carries: 77.
  • Rushing Yards: 321 yards.
  • Average Yards per Carry: ~4.17 yards.
  • Rushing Touchdowns: 7.

I guess this didn't garner the interest I thought it might.  The top player listed is Jalen Hurts.  I think he has a very similar game to Gunner.  IF you read his scouting report out of college, you would think it was Gunner they were describing.   Both are 6'1", Hurts is a tiny bit faster:  4.5 to 4.65.

I wouldn't have guessed Hurts.

I've been a Gunner fan since he committed. I saw him play a couple of HS games on tv and was very impressed. I remember his freshman year the reports out of practice were that he was a bigger version of Stetson. I admit I think Stetson was better, he is the undisputed GOAT at qb at Georgia imo.

Gunner is that player that isn't flashy and nothing about him jumps out as being extraordinary but all he can do really well is beat you.

With all of his college experience by the time he worked his way up to be the starter, Stetson was full up of moxy.  While Gunner is a ballsy runner, he doesn't have the same level of confidence with his passing game that Stet did at that time.  That said, Gunner has grown a lot this season.  I still wonder about his downfield vision and his checks down to a tight end or RB sometimes, but he's getting the job done.  Based on timing and growth, he really might be a competitive NFL qb.

I don't think Gunner has much of an NFL career ahead of him.  I'm fine with that too.  I want him to win a championship at Georgia, that is all I care about.
