The Dawgs had a successful trip to Jacksonville last week versus the Gators. But, it was a bloody fight and we lost a big defensive lineman which was a big kick in the teeth. Now the calendar shifts to November and we are away from Athens again this week. Starkville will never get much respect from the “professionals” as a tough place to play, but that’s because they’ve never had to watch their team play there. The cowbells and fervor of the fans is a very real thing. And this year, the other Bulldogs have talent to go along with that. State feels like one of those typical Kentucky teams with their physicality and toughness. We will need to be ready for an absolute war.
The Dawgs have been able to make the key plays to win games but are still giving up too many points and yards. On offense, they have risen to the challenge against the Vols and Rebs, but it would be nice to be more consistent there too.
Another challenge for the Dawgs will be the early start. Noon kickoff but it’s actually 11 AM local time. We can’t afford a slow start, or this mountain could get even harder to climb. Hopefully the equipment team has some recipes to get the guys going early. I kind of like to get coffee and some red eye gravy when I’m up early to go fishing. It tends to get the blood flowing. Go Dawgs!
