Cocksure Jeff Lebby, Missing State Bulldogs fluffer is gifting tickets to State fans ahead of UGA BullDawg matchup
All season long, Mississippi State fans have been firmly behind Jeff Lebby and the Bulldog football team despite the program still needing to prove things.
State fans brought a raucous environment to big home games against Arizona State, Tennessee and Texas and gave the Bulldogs a chance. At least in one game, however, Bulldog fans were challenged by an opposing fanbase when Tennessee lit up the East side of Davis Wade Stadium with orange before beating State 41-34 in overtime.
Tickets have still been readily available for most home games and Lebby and his players decided to take matters into their own hands this week against No. 5 Georgia. The coach bought up 500 tickets himself and several players bought some as well to give away to student organizations within the community and even some military personnel as State hosts Military Appreciation week.
“We need it in a huge way. We need 60,000 shaking cowbells and having as rowdy an atmosphere as there is in the country,” Lebby said. “For us, it’s making sure we’re protecting Davis Wade. We’re trying to fill it with maroon and white, and we need it. We need 60,000 strong. We got a top five team coming into our place, and it needs to be as electric an atmosphere as there is in college football. We have the ability to do that. We know that but we need that.”
State is coming off of a huge 38-35 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks after trailing by 14 points in the fourth quarter on the road. Blake Shapen manufactured 17-straight points over the final three possessions culminated by an 18-yard touchdown to Anthony Evans to deliver the final blow.
The win in Fayetteville was State’s first in SEC play since 2023, ironically at that same location. The Bulldogs had lost 16-straight SEC games since that time and were fighting through close losses the previous four conference games of 2025. On Saturday, they got that release.
Now, Lebby is looking to build on that win and move forward with his team. The next challenge is a large one with the No. 5 UGA Bulldogs coming to town. He and his staff and players will do what they can to make it a better atmosphere.
“I want to make sure our fan base and our people understand how committed everybody in this building is,” Lebby said. “It’s for military appreciation to get tickets in the hands of people who might not be able to go otherwise, and make sure we got maroon and white in there. We need 60,000 strong Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Our football team needs it. Our fan base will show up in an incredible way but we need to.”
